Pakistan chief selector reveals why Mohammad Amir is not selected in Pakistan’s team for the 20-20 World Cup 2022

Amir had announced his international retirement with immediate effect back in December 2020.

Pakistan chief selector Muhammad Wasim has said that senior pacer Mohammad Amir will not be making a comeback to the national team in his tenure. Giving further clarification regarding the same, Wasim added that since the left-arm speedster has taken retirement from international cricket, he cannot even be considered in the first place.

Amir had announced his international retirement with immediate effect back in December 2020. He had accused the then team management comprising of head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis of ill-treating him. The 30-year-old had said that he will only return once that management is out of power.

“My work is to select from players who are available for selection. Unfortunately, Mohammad Amir never made himself available in my tenure. He has taken retirement, so I never talked about him. When he is not available, what can I say. The rest, who are available, we do talk about them and consider them. But there is no such policy,” Wasim said on Pakistan journalist Hafiz Muhammad Imran’s channel.

It has been a year since the new management has taken over Pakistan cricket, but Mohammad Amir has never approached the PCB for his selection process even though he makes himself available to participate in franchise cricket leagues.

The southpaw had last represented Pakistan in an away T20I series against England in August 2020. Although, he has not expressed any interest in playing for the Men in Green again, he posted a cryptic tweet when Pakistan’s 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad was announced last month and seemingly took a dig at the chief selector Muhammad Wasim.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir was a part of the Jamaica Tallawahs’ victorious CPL 2022 campaign. He finished the tournament with 16 scalps to his name in 11 innings, averaging 15.6 and at an economy of 6.43. Amir has played 36 Tests for Pakistan picking up 119 wickets. In ODIs, he has 81 scalps to his name in 61 matches. In T20 internationals, Amir has 59 wickets in 50 matches.
