The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a new captain in form of Nurul Hasan Sohan for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. The change in captain came in as Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah Riyad was rested for the tour. Swatting aside questions on Nurul’s appointment as captain, Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has come in high praise for the wicketkeeper batter. Hasan also reckons Nurul will be able to overcome the challenge of Zimbabwe.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of the Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe T20I series, the Test captain said, “I think he has been given the captaincy because he is worthy of it,” Shakib Al Hasan, said as quoted by India Today. “BCB thinks that it can give a lot to Bangladesh in the future. That is why he was actually given the captaincy. I wish him all the best. The Zimbabwe series will be a good challenge. I hope he can overcome that challenge.”

We have decided to send a new team: Yunus

There has been chatter of BCB being unhappy with Mahmadullah’s approach to T20I captaincy as Bangladesh lost the T20I series against the West Indies but won the ODI series 3-0. The BCB chairman, Mohammad Jalal Yunus said that discussions between Mahmudullah and the board on the matter have been done and Nurul as the next captain was a unanimous decision.

“We have been discussing the T20 team for several days. The issue of Riyad’s captaincy was discussed. Today we called Riyad and discussed the T20 team. After discussing with him, we have decided to send a new team. We will try with some new players. That’s why we’ve chosen Sohan to lead the team,” Yunus was quoted as saying.

Bangladesh are on a three-match T20I tour to Zimbabwe after playing against West Indies. They lost the Test and T20I series against West Indies but came back strong to whitewash the home team in the ODIs.

Their first match of the three-match T20I series starts on 30th July. All matches from the series will be played at the Harare Sports Club. Zimbabwe will then host India for a three-match ODI series after playing against Bangladesh.
