‘Now even the sons of Netherlands are dreaming’ – Fans react to Kagiso Rabada’s ‘South Africa have an advantage in World Cup’ statement
South Africa is yet to win ODI and 20-20 World Cup at the highest level.
South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada feels that his national side will have an advantage going into ODI World Cup 2023 in India. He cited some of his teammates alongside him as having the experience of playing the IPL. Rabada added that the challenge for him would be to understand the information a newbie in the team wouldn’t know.
“Playing in India is really tough as a fast bowler on some of those wickets,” said Rabada, who has played 89 ODIs and taken 137 wickets in the format.
“I guess the challenge now, at the age that I am, is to know (and understand) the basic information that a newbie wouldn’t know. You are always learning and always looking to be as effective as you can be on different wickets.”
We have played at most grounds in India: Kagiso Rabada
The right-arm pacer further added that reading the wickets during the tournament will be key. The 2014 U19 World Cup winner it’s easy to say reading the pitch and playing the best combination but very difficult to execute.
“It is all about reading (the pitch) better and that is in combination with the goals that you set. Those two go in tandem – reading the conditions and executing your skills.”
“It sounds very nonchalant and easy to say, but it is a very rigorous process and a tough one. That is the process that I am currently involved in. That is where I am.”
“Heading into the World Cup in India, I do think that we have an advantage because we have played in the IPL for so many years. We have played at most of the grounds, if not all, so we understand those conditions.”
Talking about the Proteas, they are yet to play a final of an ODI World Cup. Having made their debut in 1992, they played in the semis in 1992, 1999, 2007, and 2015. In the 2015 edition, they won their first-ever knockout game i.e Quarter Final against Sri Lanka.

Final curse. SA is capable of going to final.
But final will have a rain (OR)
SA will remove itself out of the winning context.— SWAMI.BLOG (@swami_blog) June 19, 2023
