The Hundred 2022 has been an exciting and successful affair so far. The tournament officially moved into the second half with match 17 between Trent Rockets and Oval Invincibles.

It was a chance for both to get a move on towards the top as both had accumulated six points before this match. OVI won the toss and elected to bowl first aiming to pack the TRT team on a low score and chase down the target.

Their tactic however proved wrong as TRT went on to score 181/4 in 100 balls. The Rockets team got off to a great start with both openers, Alex Hales (59) and Dawid Malan (38), taking the team score to 84 before the first wicket fell. The next batter Tom Kohler- Cadmore could not do much as he got out at just 13 runs. Daniel Sams also played poorly and could only contribute three off of five deliveries. Colin Munro (23) and Lewis Gregory (24) remained unbeaten to take the team score to a very impressive 181/4.

Mohammad Hasnain with two and Sunil Narine & Sam Curran with one each were the only wickets takers.

Coming onto chase what looked like a huge total, the OVI team openers could not give a similar start to their team. Will Jacks (11) fell as the first wicket for the OVI team. The top order kept failing on regular occasions as the OVI team found it increasingly hard to keep the required run rate in check.

Captain Sam Billings’ dismissal at zero summarised the OVI team’s misery. Jordan Cox with a courageous 61 off of 33 deliveries tried but could not get his team across the finish line. The OVI in the end lost the match by 25 runs.

Tabraiz Shamsi with two wickets in twenty balls was the highest wickets taker from the TRT side. Luke Wood, Sam Cook and Samit Patel took one each to halt the OVI run chase.

Twitter was buzzing with TRT’s win as they move to second in the league. Let’s look at some of the reactions to TRT’s win.
