‘New franchises shining’ – Dynamic Lucknow back to winning ways after impressive win over Delhi
KL Rahul carried his batting form with an inning of 77 runs
Delhi and Lucknow locked horns in the 45th game of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. As it was a day game, Lucknow decided to bat first after winning the toss. They had a great start as Quinton de Kock scored a quick 13-ball 23 before being caught at point by Lalit Yadav off Shardul Thakur. At this stage, the scorecard read 42/1 in 4.3 overs.
Skipper KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda stitched a partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket. Just like de Kock, Hooda took the attack to the opposition while Rahul held the other end. Hooda scored 52 off 34 balls including six fours and a six before he was caught and bowled by Thakur. With 5.3 overs left in the inning, Marcus Stoinis was sent in the middle to give a quick finish.
However, his inning was contrary to the expectations of the Men in Mint Green. He started struggling to middle the ball which is why Rahul took the attack on the opposition bowlers. From 54 off 40, the skipper of the team raced to 77 of 51 before becoming the third victim of Thakur. On the other hand, Stoinis could only hit one four and as many six in his 16-ball 17. The team finished on a competitive total of 195/3.
In reply, the Men in Blue and Red had a poor start as they lost their openers inside three overs. Prithvi Shaw (5) was caught at midwicket by K. Gowtham trying to play a pull shot to Dushmantha Chameera in the second over of the chase. David Warner (3) was caught by Ayush Badoni off Mohsin Khan. At 13/2, Mitchell Marsh (37 off 20) and Rishabh Pant stitched an explosive partnership of 60 runs in just four overs.
However, the partnership was ended after Marsh was caught behind by de Kock off K. Gowtham. Pant scored 44 off 30 before being clean bowled by Mohsin Khan. The likes of Rovman Powell (35 off 21) and Axar Patel (42* off 24) took the team close but couldn’t finish the game. Delhi was restricted to 189/7, losing the game by seven runs.

Axar Patel hasn't won this. But worth remembering he is scoring at nearly a run a ball more than last year. Like he's found his turbo button.

Mohsin khan’s wicket of Rishabh pant was a turning point of the game. Impressive young bowler.

DC Need A Better Lineup. Try KS Bharat In Place Of Lalit Yadav And Find A Replacement For Shardul Thakur. Play Axar Only If You Need His Batting His Bowling Is Not Upto The Mark This Season. Make Kuldeep Bowl Three Overs Atleast. Use Nagarkoti, Ripal Patel. #DCvLSG

#LSG beats Delhi Capitals to move even closer to the play offs. New franchises are shining!

I have been saying this since last two @DelhiCapitals matches, @RishabhPant17 batting and intent is 💯, its his inability to finish and take his team home which is really annoying & in two.matches his catches been dropped and he was not able to make full use of it..#LSGvDC

#DC probably now need at least 4 wins out of their last 5 games or they are out of contention. #LSG almost certainly though.

Delhi have been a strange team this year. No fire at all in their batting #DCvsLSGT

Players not going on to convert their starts has been the undoing for #DelhiCapitals this year. Everyone has been chipping in but to chase 200 u need atleast one from top 5 to score a 50+ score.
Frustrating season so far, yet to win consecutive games— Amartya Choudhary (@AmartyaChoudha1) May 1, 2022
4 HR 6 min to complete 40 overs?
This is foolish. What serious penalties are imposed because this is repeated on continuous basis in this season? Why no captain is banned for any match?Even an innings of ODI don't take 4 hrs to complete.@cricketaakash @IrfanPathan #DCvsLSG— Kathan Shah (@KathanS0901) May 1, 2022
