According to sources, former Indian all-rounder Chetan Sharma is likely to be reappointed as chairman of the National Selection Committee. The Indian Cricket Board is willing to give him another chance as chief selector. He could also be on the selection panel representing the North Zone.

In the meantime, the Board’s three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which includes former India cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik, is conducting interviews for a new selection committee at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai. A few people have already been shortlisted, and the final selection will be announced soon.

Earlier in November, the Board called for applicants for the new selection committee following India’s performance in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, where the Men in Blue were eliminated in the semifinals after a ten-wicket loss to England. Last year, India also faced a disappointing final four-stage exit from the Asia Cup in August-September, as well as a 2-1 loss to Bangladesh in the ODI series in December.

The criteria for those interested in applying for the positions were detailed in a release issued by the country’s highest governing body of cricket. “Should have played a minimum of 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches,” the release said.

“Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago and no person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of the Men’s Selection Committee,” the release added.

The Indian Cricket Board convened a Team India review meeting in Mumbai on Sunday to assess the team’s performance in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, which it lost by 10 wickets to England in the semi-finals. The board has selected 20 players for the World Cup 2023, which will be held in India in October.

In the meantime, fans were enraged by the news of Chetan Sharma being reappointed as the chief selector.
