Most expensive spell, golden duck and a lost car, a forgettable return for Carlos Brathwaite

Brathwaite conceded 31 runs and was dismissed on a first ball duck.

West Indies cricketer Carlos Braithwaite had a forgettable day on his debut in village cricket in England. Braithwaite made his debut for Knowle and Dorridge Cricket Club in the Birmingham & District Premier League. On April 17, he was playing against Leamington Cricket Club in a 50-over contest. The 2016 T20 World Cup winner had not played any cricket in the last since months  due to a shoulder injury.

Brathwaite had a forgettable game  as he conceded 31 runs in the match, the most expensive figures for his team, was dismissed on a first ball duck and even his car got stolen. Brathwaite took to Twitter to make these revelations.

“What a day yesterday,” he wrote on Twitter. “First time bowling in a game after injury for six months – First ball duck from a long hop – Car stolen But you know what, woke up this morning, Sun is shining and giving thanks. Happy Easter to all”.

Meanwhile, Braithwaite was named the captain of Birmingham Bears team in the T20 Blast last year. He had successful stint as a player last season where he scored 183 runs at a strike-rate of 150 and picked 18 wickets in the tournament. His side qualified for the quarterfinal before they lost to eventual winners, Kent. Brathwaite was then rewarded with the leadership reins of Birmingham Bears.

Earlier, the Barbados-born player said that he cherished playing cricket in Birmingham, adding that he is expecting more fans in the Edgbaston to support the Bears.

“Edgbaston is a very special place to play at and it was great to get a taste of the atmosphere last year,” Brathwaite said. “Hopefully we can welcome thousands more fans to get the Eric Hollies Stand rocking next year and make Edgbaston the real fortress for the Bears which it’s renowned for.”
