Star pacer Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh due to a shoulder injury, Indian Cricket Board announced on Saturday. The young fast-bowling sensation Umran Malik has been included in the squad as a replacement for Shami. According to reports, Shami suffered the injury during a training session after he returned from Australia after the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

The 32-year-old took to Twitter to give an update on his injury to his fans and shared photographs of him getting the treatment. “Injury, in general, teaches you to appreciate every moment. I’ve had my share of injuries throughout my career. It’s humbling. It gives you perspective. No matter how many times I’ve been hurt, I’ve learned from that injury and come back even more stronger,” Shami tweeted.

The Indian Cricket Board shared a press release on Saturday early morning giving an update on Shami’s injury.

“Fast bowler Mohammad Shami sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead-up to the ODI series against Bangladesh. He is currently under the supervision of the Indian Cricket Board Medical Team at the NCA, Bengaluru and will not be able to take part in the three-match series. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umran Malik as Shami’s replacement,” Indian Cricket Board said in a press release on Saturday.

Bangladesh vs India ODI Series to start on 4th December

The Bangladesh vs India three-match ODI series starts on Sunday with the first match scheduled to be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. After the conclusion of the ODI Series, two teams will play a two-match Test series.

The Bengal pacer was expected to spearhead India’s pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Shami is also in the scheme of things for next year’s ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India. However, he will be missed the most in the Test series if he fails to recover in time.

Shami’s injury can be a huge cause of concern for India, especially in Tests as they need to win all of their remaining Test matches to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship next year to be held at Oval in June.

Meanwhile, Umran Malik recently made his debut in the ODI series against New Zealand and impressed everyone with his scorching pace and picked up three wickets.
