India are one of the best teams in the cricketing world at present and one of the turning points in the history of Indian cricket was the appointment of Sourav Ganguly as the captain of team India. The southpaw was one of the earliest to bring revolutions within the domestic setup and the team selection.

The former team India captain was the one to pick MS Dhoni into the national squad and on the recommendation of legend Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni was tasked, out of nowhere, to lead the side during the 2007 20-20 World Cup. It was the inaugural season of the 20-over World Cup and South Africa were the proud host of the multinational competition.

It was just then India had to crash out of the 50-over World Cup held months before in the same year in the group stage itself. After a massive backfire and with the hope of not facing such an embarrassing situation again, the team management announced Dhoni as the captain. Facing Pakistan in the finals, the right-handed batter handled the ball to Joginder Sharma and the bowler became the hero of the night as he won the game for the Men in Blue.

Joginder Sharma announces retirement from all forms of cricket

On February 3, Friday, the hero of the summit clash Joginder, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and for the unversed, the bowling allrounder is working as a cop in Haryana. With just 8 international matches and 5 wickets to his name, Joginder stands out because of that 1 wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq in the finals that changed the face of Indian cricket.

It was India’s roaring comeback that set the tone for the future and the team went on to win the 2011 50-over World Cup, in what can be called the greatest moment of Indian history after the 1983 triumph. Although Joginder has a lesser legacy compared to the 2007 squad, his wicket will and forever be the best moment of the highly-competitive tournament.
