‘Mere Ko TV lagana padega’ – Fans react as cheerleaders mark their return to Indian T20 League 2023

The Indian T20 League has begun and the madness, craze and the razmataz is back in India. The 16th edition will be held in the home and away format across the country. The tournament will be held in 12 venues and the impact player rule will be seen this year as well. The DRS reviews can be used for wides and no balls in this edition.

The teams will put out two team sheets. One team if they are batting first and one team if they are bowling first. The toss will be held after the teams are put out. The impact player rule along with this change was brought in to negate the impact of the toss and also to bring some freshness to the league. The impact player rule was first used in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Cheerleaders are back in the Indian T20 League as well. They have provided a lot of glamour and increased eyeballs to the league.

The 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League was entirely held in Mumbai and Pune

The last three editions of the tournament were held in India and in the UAE. The 2020 edition was held in the UAE in the aftermath of the Covid 19 pandemic. This was entirely held in the UAE. The 2021 edition was supposed to be held in India but halfway through the league, all plans came to a grinding halt due to the second wave.

The 2022 edition was entirely held in India, but it was restricted to Mumbai and Pune. The teams travelled to the ground in buses. Air travel was restricted and the grounds that were used were DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, MCA Stadium in Pune and the Wankhede Stadium.

Lucknow and Gujarat were the two new teams added and thus, the tournament became a 10-team tournament from an 8-team tournament. Lucknow did well under KL Rahul’s leadership. The got a playoff spot in the top four. Gujarat went a step further and won the tournament in their inaugural season. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, the franchise played out of their skin and surprised everyone.
