The imminent ODI World Cup 2023 in India has stirred up anticipation as teams gear up to compete for the coveted trophy. Ahead of the tournament, Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan shared insights into his preferences regarding standout players from the host nation.

Notably, Shadab Khan deviated from the conventional choice of Virat Kohli as his preferred batter from the Indian cricket team lineup. Instead, he expressed admiration for Rohit Sharma, emphasizing the formidable challenge bowlers face when confronting the Indian captain once he settles in. Indeed, when Rohit Sharma finds his rhythm, few bowlers are eager to step forward and volunteer to face him, making him a formidable force on the field. In addition to it, the elegant left-hand batter has been crucial in the World Cup campaigns.

When asked about his favourite batter from India’s lineup, Shadab Khan said, “As a batter, I really like Rohit Sharma. The prolific India batter has very difficult and dangerous to bowl to once he’s set. Among the bowlers, I like Kuldeep because I’m also a leg-spinner. It’s very difficult to bowl on flat tracks in these conditions.”

Rohit Sharma has been in sublime form in World Cups

In the 2019 Cricket World Cup held in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma showcased his batting prowess by amassing an impressive total of 648 runs. Recognized as the ‘Hitman’ of Indian cricket, Sharma was at the peak of his form during the tournament. The right-handed batsman delivered an exceptional performance, leading the run charts with an astounding average of 81.00 and a strike rate of 98.33 across nine matches. The current India captain made remarkable innings including five centuries and one fifty.

Among his standout performances was a memorable knock of 140 against arch-rivals Pakistan, which is regarded as one of the finest innings in World Cup history. Rohit Sharma’s achievement of scoring five centuries in a single World Cup set an unprecedented record. Despite his outstanding individual contributions, India fell short of winning the World Cup in 2019.
