Manchester United monitoring 22-year-old Premier League keeper as David de Gea replacement

Manchester United as sitting third on the Premier League table with 46 points from 23 matches.

Manchester United plan to replace David de Gea

David de Gea has been Manchester United’s mainstay within the posts for quite some time now. The Spaniard has been in flying form since last season; he is arguably among the best Premier League goalies in terms of current form. However, he is 32 years old and demands a hefty salary of £375,000 per week, a figure that the club is unwilling to afford right now. They are willing to keep de Gea for a few more seasons at United offering him a lucrative £250,000 per week deal whilst also working on an option to secure their future within the posts for a long time.

Per reports, United is monitoring the situation of the 22-year-old French shot-stopper Illar Meslier who currently plays for Leeds United. Meslier has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive young goalkeepers. There’s no surprise that the United board has their eyes over him; they view him as a potential replacement for the 32-year-old Spaniard handling the gloves for the Red Devils.

Future of loanee Dean Henderson also remains uncertain

Despite these speculations over United’s goalkeeping future, Dean Henderson’s situation remains uncertain. The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and is hoping for a call back to his parent club. However, United are keen on selling the Englishman to ensure him enough game-time. Therefore, a gap in United’s goalkeeping department will appear.

Manchester United are rumoured to be soon taken over by a group of Qatari investors that can land them up as one of the world’s wealthiest clubs. If the deal goes through, the Red Devils are believed to move for Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, two of the most sought-after transfer targets in the football community.

An influx of money may also mean that United will be able to meet the wage demands of their star players. However, that doesn’t negate the fact that David de Gea will soon be 33 years old, and United will need a more dynamic younger option to take over soon. Therefore, the Spaniard’s future situation remains an exciting topic in the transfer market.
