‘Malinga ko le aao wapis’ – Fans react as Shane Bond parts ways with Mumbai Indians as bowling coach

Today, Mumbai Indians,the Indian Premier League (IPL) side confirmed that former New Zealand quick Shane Bond will leave his position as bowling coach. The former Kiwi cricketer said he will miss playing with all the guys he had over the span of time and the memories they have helped him make.

For the past eight years, Bond has been the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians, where he has guided the growth of players like Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Madhwal, Alzarri Joseph, Arshad Khan, Trent Boult, Mitchell McClenaghan, amongst many more. The team won four IPL championships while he was in charge. 

The former bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders also expressed his gratitude to the Ambani family for giving him the chance to collaborate with such very gifted sportsmen.

After placing on the bottom position in the 2022 season, Bond’s final campaign with the five-time winners saw them post a better performance. In the playoffs, they were defeated by the Gujarat Titans, the runner-up. 2015 marked the start of Bond’s relationship with the Mumbai Indians, and that year, along with championships in 2017, 2019, as well as 2020, the team won the championship.

The 48-year-old sent his best wishes for them, as reported on the official website. He said, “I would like to thank the Ambani family for the opportunity to be part of MI One Family for the last nine seasons. It has been an incredible experience with so many great memories on and off the field.” 

The former fast bowler also added that, “I have been lucky enough to work with and have strong relationships with so many great people, both players and staff. I will miss them all and wish them all the best for the future. Finally thanks to the MI Paltan for their support as well.”
