The second and third match of the Malaysia Quadrangular Series 2022 took place on Sunday. In the second match, Thailand locked horns with Maldives at UKM-YSD Cricket Oval stadium. Batting first, Maldives were bowled out for just 81 runs on the board. Narawit Nuntarach played a handy knock of 24 runs in 23 balls, including 3 fours.

However, besides him, the other three batters got out on single-digit scores. Suanchuai played a handy knock of 14 runs in 22 balls but other than that, the team didn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

For Maldives, Leem Shafeeg picked 3 wickets for 9 runs in 2.3 overs, while the likes of Umad Adam and Rizan picked two each.

In reply, Maldives chased down the target in 15.4 overs. The first three wickets fell for 27 runs on the board. However, Mohamed Rishwan and Mohamed Azzam then joined hands and guided the team home in 15.4 overs. Rishwan played an unbeaten knock of 38 runs in 33 balls, while Mohamed Azzam made 17 off 27 balls.

Thanadon Buree picked 2 wickets for 12 runs in 2 overs, while Vichanath Singh returned with figures of 1 for 17 in 4 overs.

On the other hand, the third match of the competition saw Malaysia take on Bhutan at the same stadium. Malaysia batted first and managed to score on 112 runs on the board in the first innings. Zulkifle made a decent start, scoring 29 runs in 22 balls, however, all the other batsmen in the top-eight got out on single digit scores.

Malaysia had lost 8 wickets for just 51 runs on the board. However, Fitri Sham’s unbeaten knock of 40 runs in 38 balls helped the team reach some sort of a total on the board. For Bhutan, Sonam Yeshi and Ngawang Thinley both picked three wickets each.

However, Bhutan couldn’t make a similar performance with the bat as they were bundled out for just 73 runs, thereby losing the game by 39 runs. Apart from Namgay Thinley (25 off 27), none of the batter looked solid at the crease.

Malaysia were outstanding with the ball. Syazrul Idrus was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 17 in 3.4 overs. Virandeep Singh was outstanding, returning with figures of 3 for 4 in 4 overs.
