The Malaysia Quadrangular T20I Series reached its culmination on July 11th after nine days of high-intensity cricket. The hosts reached the final, winning all of their matches. Meanwhile, Bhutan were the second finalist after winning all of their games other than those against Malaysia.

Having lost two matches against the host team, it was finally an opportunity for the Bhutan team to avenge their loss. Let’s look at the match report of the final game of the Malaysia Quadrangular series.

Malaysia Quadrangular T20I Series Final: Malaysia vs Bhutan

After winning the toss, the host team decided to bowl first. The Bhutan team were put under pressure from the word get-go and lost their both openers Ranjung Dorji (1) and Tenzin Wangchuck (3) at a team score of just 82 runs. The number three batter Tenjin Rabgey also gave their wicket cheaply at just one run. Thingely Jamtsho came up with a gritty 37 off of 30 balls and was the only Bhutan batter who had an answer for Malaysia bowlers. He hit one four and three sixes in his 37-run knock. None of the other batters were able to help him and in the end, Bhutan could only manage 82/10.

Syazrul Ezat with 3.1-13-3 was Malaysia’s best bowler. Five of the other bowlers took one wicket each in what was a complete team effort. Coming on to chase this small target seemed very easy for the Malaysia batters. The openers Syed Aziz (44 off of 25) and Zubaidi Zulkifle (19 off of 5) got off to a storming start. Zulkifle in particular looked very dominating and hit three massive sixes in his 19-run knock. He was however LBW while playing a cross-shot. Captain Ahmad Faiz came up next to take his team across the finish line with a quickfire 16 off of 9.

The hosts Malaysia did not lose a single game in the series and steamrolled every opponent. Praise however must also be laid on Bhutan who were beaten by a massive 155 runs in the first match. They however did not crumble under pressure and won all of their next games apart from the one against Malaysia. They came to play an international T20I match after many years and to reach the final must be special for them.

The Malaysian cricket also congratulated both the teams after the final.
