The Sri Lankan legendary batter, Mahela Jayawardene has been known for his technical prowess during his playing days. Even the best of the contemporary bowlers found it hard to breach Mahela’s defence. But in a recent interview, he has revealed the bowler he found the most difficult to face.

During a conversation on the international authority of cricket’s digital show, Jayawardene said that it was Wasim Akram who troubled him the most. He said that the Pakistani legend would always bring his best to the table given any time of the day.

“I made my debut when it was his peak or the backend of his career. He has a really quick arm-action and he has the ability to beat you any time of the day,”- said Jayawardene.

Jayawardene also said that the pitch conditions were irrelevant for the pacer to beat a batter or trouble him. “He could pose problems to any batter and not just him. He would run in with the same intensity at the end of the second day’s play as he would at the first ball of the match,”- he added.

Speaking of Jayawardene’s career, he has represented Sri Lanka in 149 Tests, 448 ODIs, and 55 T20Is. He has scored a total of 26,900 runs in the international circuit of the game. He was also part of the Sri Lankan team that won the T20 World Cup in 2014.

Jayawardene will be remembered by Indian cricket fans for his special efforts in the 2011 50-overs World Cup. Jayawardene played a special knock of 103 runs from 88 balls on the Big day and took the Sri Lankan score to a massive 274 runs in 50 overs. While chasing it required special efforts from Gautam Gambhir (97 of 122) and MS Dhoni (91 off 79) to take India home. With the win in the match, India lifted the coveted World Cup after 28 long years.
