Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently with domestic, Maharashtra, competing in the ongoing season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The team led by the star player is competing against Uttar Pradesh in the second qualifier. Batting first, Maharashtra set the stage on fire.
The credit for their brilliant performance goes to team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 25-year-old scored a massive double-century to help his team get to a total of 330/5 in their allotted 50 overs. However, the highlight of his batting came at the back end of the innings.
Gaikwad created history in the One Day format by hitting as many as seven sixes in the 49th over. Shiva Singh, the UP bowler, bowled six fair deliveries and a no-ball, all of which sailed over the boundary rope for six runs. He conceded 43 runs in the penultimate over of the innings.
In this over, Gaikwad also completed his double century. However, the Maharashtra captain did not stop there and he went on to hit two more sixes in the final over. The Pune-born player stayed undefeated in his innings of 220 runs in 159 balls, with a strike rate of 138.36. In total, he hit 16 sixes and 10 boundaries to help his team to a good score.
Apart from him, not many players could do much, as the next highest run-scorers were Ankit Bawne and Azim Kazi with 37 runs each in 54 and 42 balls, respectively. For Uttar Pradesh, Kartik Tyagi was the pick of the bowlers, with three wickets in his spell of 10 overs and 66 runs. Shivam Sharma and Ankit Rajpoot also had a wicket each in the innings. Both teams will look to give their all in this crucial encounter. The winner from this match will advance to the semi-finals, while the loser will be eliminated.
In the meantime, Twitter was overjoyed with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s innings in the quarter-finals. Wishes started pouring in as soon as he ended the perfect over.
