 Shamar Joseph, the sensational pacer from the West Indies, has signed his first deal with the Indian Premier League. The teenage fast bowler will take Mark Wood’s spot at Lucknow Super Giants. This happens after he performed remarkably during the West Indies tour of Australia.

On Saturday, February 10, the Indian Premier League announced on the league’s official social media accounts that the player has been purchased for INR 3 crore. It is still unknown if Mark Wood has been hurt or has withdrawn from the competition. Wood participated in the India series’ opening Test match before getting some rest for the second match in Vizag.

The IPL Media Advisory announced this news on all their social media handles. The statement read, “Lucknow Super Giants name Shamar Joseph as replacement for Mark Wood. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) named Shamar Joseph as replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore. The speedster was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba. He picked 7 wickets in the 2nd innings to script a historic win in Australia for West Indies. This will be Joseph’s first stint in the IPL.”

What did Shamar Joseph say after his epic bowling display against Australia?

The young West Indies fast bowler spoke after winning the Player of the Series award against Australia. He said, “It is actually amazing for me , you know, I just want to turn this way to give a shout out to my teammates and the management staff for great words of encouragement. Having a bruised toe to bowl with, but I just go through the phase and pain, knowing that I need to do this for my team and you know for everyone in my country and the Caribbean.”

The newly recruited pacer for the Lucknow Super Giants also thanked the Gabba crowd for supporting his nation. He said, “Came down to the crowd, to keep pushing us and actually believing us that we can bring the series to 1-1, thank you guys so much.”
