‘Look after yourself up there great man’: Tributes flood in as the news of Andrew Symonds’ untimely demise spreads

The whole cricketing fraternity was shocked by the news of former Australian all-rounder, Andrew Symond’s untimely death.

In a tragic development, the former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds has passed away in a car accident. The tragic incident has reportedly taken place on the outskirts of the city of Townsville on Sunday (15th May) morning. He was regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to have ever graced the game.

Symonds is survived by his wife Laura and two young children, Chloe and Billy. The Star all-rounder played an important role in Australia’s World Cup wins in 2003 and 2007. During his playing days, he was a captain’s delight as he played any role assigned to him with efficiency. He had the capability of changing any match with the bat in hand and that too coming out to bat in any number in the batting order. He was equally versatile with the ball in hand, as he was a handy off-spinner and a medium pacer at the same time.

The news of his accident was reported by a statement released by the police, which read- “Early information indicates, shortly after 11 pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.”

As per a report by NewsCorp, the cricketer’s family confirmed the tragic development. While they acknowledged the heartfelt wishes and condolences from across the globe, they requested privacy.

In his illustrious career, Symonds played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs, and 14 T20Is. During his playing time, he scored close to 7000 international runs and also picked up about 150 wickets. Not only, in batting and bowling, but he was also a brilliant fielder too. He was also a part of the Indian T20 League, as he donned the jerseys of Hyderabad and Mumbai team. The cricketing fraternity will truly miss such a beast of the game.

As the news of the legend’s untimely death surfaced the whole fraternity expressed their shock and disbelief at it. Condolences and prayers came in from all parts of the world for the Symonds family.
