‘Living in Pakistan is like living in jail’- Renowned commentator Simon Doull makes stunning revelation

Simon Doull and Babar Azam

Simon Doull, the former New Zealand cricketer, who is now a commentator, made some astounding claims as he continued to take a lot of heat for his on-air remarks. Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has recently come under Doull’s fire for his strike rate. When Doull as well as former Pakistan cricketer Aamer Sohail started arguing verbally on television, the situation quickly became ugly.

After the argument, Doull said that Babar’s supporters had intimidated him, so he could not leave. He also detailed how he was subjected to mental torment, claiming that he kept inside without food and “escaped from Pakistan.”

What did Simon Doull say about his time in Pakistan?

He told the media how horrifying his experience in Pakistan was and compared it to Jail. He said, “Living in Pakistan is like living in jail.I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me. And I stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. Even though I was mentally tortured, by the grace of God I somehow escaped from Pakistan.”

The selection committee, chaired by Shahid Afridi, wished to replace Babar as Pakistan cricket team captain, according to Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi. Sethi even stated on Twitter that the outcome will depend on whether the status quo succeeds or fails. Before  Pakistan lost the T20I series against Afghanistan by 1-2, Babar Azam was rested. In time for the domestic series against New Zealand, Babar will be back.

Pakistan Cricket Board President tweeted that, “For months media and cricketing circles have been discussing pros and cons of retaining Babar Azam as captain in all formats of the game. Since this decision is ultimately Chairman’s, I have sought views of Selection Committees headed by Shahid Afridi and now Haroon Rashid.”

The tweet further stated that, “”Both Committees thought matter merited discussion but both later came to the conclusion that the status quo should be retained. I have subsequently publicly stated this position. In the final analysis my decision will be subject to the success or failure of status quo.

“I will also be guided by what the Selectors and Director Cricket Ops and Head Coach have to say going forward. I expect they will be in the best position to advise me. Therefore we should support Babar and not make matter controversial in interests of national team.”
