Lionel Messi’s injury scare prior to 2022 World Cup rocks Argentina, to sit out for PSG’s next game

Paris Saint Germain will face off against Lorient on Sunday.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, Argentina’s star footballer and captain, suffered an injury scare, just about 2 weeks before the start of the FIFA World Cup. However, reports from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) claim that the star player might recover and return to full training next week.

Further, the reports claim that Messi would miss the next PSG clash and might use the ‘Argentina Clause’ to stay out of the game against Lorient in order to recover on time for the upcoming mega event in Qatar. For the unversed, the clause allows the 35-year-old to prefer international games over the club and it might come in handy for the superstar.

About his recovery, the French club expect him to come back to training next week ahead of their next fixture with Auxerre, which is their last game before the mega event in Qatar, as per Sportsbible reports. Argentina fans, on the other hand, would hope for the recovery of the legendary player and witness his magic in the upcoming biggest sporting event.

Argentina’s golden run since 2019

Lionel Scaloni’s men are unbeaten since their loss against Brazil in July 2019 and it would take a lot for the teams placed alongside the Messi-led team to defeat them. Argentina are grouped in ‘C’ alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland and it might be an easy sail-through for the Albicelestes.

Messi is yet to win the World Cup and his first-ever international trophy came in the year 2021 when they beat Brazil in Copa America and it remains to see if the player can emulate the same energy in the upcoming global event. Concerning Argentina, the team face Saudi Arabia on November 22 in their campaign opener, Mexico on the 27th and Poland on the 1st of December. Announcing that it will be the last World Cup, Messi would hope to sign off with the trophy that he has never won in his entire life.

“Surely, this will be my final World Cup. I’m counting down the days until the World Cup. The truth is, there’s a little anxiety, saying: ‘Well, we’re here, what’s going to happen? It’s my last one, how’s it going to go?’. On one hand, I can’t wait for it to arrive, but I’m also desperate for it to go well,” Messi told in an interview with ESPN earlier.
