Lankan Premier League Season 3 dates revealed, Jaffna Kings take on Galle Gladiators in campaign opener
The third edition of the league is all set to get underway on December 6.
The Lankan Premier League (LPL) dates for the third edition are out and it will be the defending champions Jaffna Kings who will take Galle Gladiators in the tournament opener on December 6 at Hambantota. A total of five teams will be taking part in the tournament and the play-off stage of the same will begin on December 21.
To add more to it, while the qualifiers will be played on the 21st, eliminators and finals will be played at RPICS, Colombo on 22nd and 23rd respectively. While the top two teams will face off in Qualifier 1, the third and fourth-placed teams will square off against each other in the eliminators of the league.
The winner of the Qualifier 1 will progress to the finals while the loser will play the winner of the eliminator, in the second Qualifier, thereby progressing to the summit clash, by winning the same. The tournament will witness some exclusive actions and will also involve international players like Carlos Brathwaite, Shoaib Malik, D’Arcy Short and others.
Anil Mohan, the CEO of the IPG, the official promoter of the LPL, said that the potential in Sri Lanka is huge and claimed that the league is growing in stature with every passing year. Further, Mohan said that the presence of renowned international cricketers would make the league more known to cricket fans all around the world.

Further, Mohan announced former Sri Lanka cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and former Pakistan great Wasim Akram as the brand ambassadors of the league, in order to promote the same. The CEO said that it would be important for aspiring cricketers and added that Sri Lankan cricket has always produced world-class players.
“The appetite for cricket in Sri Lanka is huge and we are bringing the best of cricketing action to our fans in Sri Lanka. With the Lanka Premier League, we want to provide some high-energy T20 cricket throughout December,” Mohan was quoted as saying.
“Sri Lankan Cricket has always produced many world-class players and the inclusion of top international cricketers like Evin Lewis, Carlos Brathwaite, and Janneman Malan among others is contributing to the growth and popularity of Lanka Premier League in the subcontinent. I am sure that the third edition will be a success like the last two seasons,” said the CEO further.
