With the player draft already done, the Lanka Premier League 2022 is all set for its third edition starting on 31st July. Franchises however are still adding players to their team in hopes of snatching the trophy from Jaffna Kings, who have won the tournament both times.

In what comes as major news for the Kody Falcons fans, the franchise has added the Sri Lanka national team opener Pathum Nissanka to their squad. The 24-year-old ranks eighth in the international T20I men’s betting rankings, which is the highest of any Sri Lanka batter. The right-hand batter has been in incredible form recently, as he hit a match-winning century against Australia in the ODI series.

The Kody Falcons team already looked good on paper and were seen as potential winners ahead of the Lanka Premier League 2022 season. Players from the likes of Carlos Brathwaite, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karynaratne, Fabian Allen, and Dewald Brevis already make this team capable of challenging the Jaffna Kings team, but with the addition of Pathum Nissanka, they look even more compelling.

Talking to Newswire, the Kandy Falcons owner showed immense joy and said, “Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL.

Covid hits Sri Lanka camp

Meanwhile, the Galle-born batter was ruled out from the second Test match against Australia, which the hosts won by an innings and 39 runs. Earlier the quartet of Dhananjaya de Silva, Asitha Fernando, Jeffery Vandersay and Praveen Jayawickrama were ruled out of the second Test as the COVID outbreak hit the Sri Lankan camp.

After making 554 runs in the second innings, They were even better in the third. The hosts were able to send the Australian side packing at just 151/10, winning the match by an innings and 39 runs.

Dinesh Chandimal with 206 and Prabath Jayasuriya with 12 wickets in the match were Sri Lanka’s top performers.
