In the 66th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Rajasthan Royals faced Punjab Kings at the HPCA cricket stadium in Dharamshala. In their last league game, Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by 8 wickets on Friday. Riding on half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal, RR registered their seventh victory of the season.

After winning the toss, Sanju Samson opted to bowl first, and his decision went well with the team. PBKS lost four wickets for just 50 runs in 6.3 overs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh, skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingston and Atharva Taide were dismissed by Trent Boult, Adam Zampa and Navdeep Saini, respectively.

After their departure, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran added 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Jitesh, in his innings, scored 44 runs off 28 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes. In the end, Curran, along with Shahrukh Khan, added 73 runs for the fifth wicket.

Curran, in his innings, scored unbeaten 49 runs off 31 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Khan, in his innings, scored 41 runs off 23 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. For RR, Navdeep Saini proved to be the best bowler as he clinched three wickets.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Padikkal won the game for RR

Chasing 188 runs, Rajasthan Royals got a shaky start as opener Jos Buttler registered his fifth duck of the season. He was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. After his departure, Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Devdutt Padikkal, added 73 runs for the second wicket. Padikkal, in his innings, scored 51 runs off 30 balls with the help of five boundaries and three sixes.

After that, Sanju Samson also nibbed out soon. However, Jaiswal continue his dominance and was well supported by Shimron Hetmyer. Both added 47 runs for the fourth wicket. Jaiswal, in his innings, scored 50 runs off 36 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Meanwhile, Hetmyer scored 46 runs off 28 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes.

In the end, Dhruv Jurel and Trent Boult won the game for the Rajasthan Royals. This was the second consecutive loss for PBKS at their new home ground in Dharamshala. On the other hand, with this victory, RR is still alive in the playoffs race. They will, however, depend on other teams’ results.
