KL Rahul smashed second Boxing Day Test century in Centurion versus South Africa, and it felt like old times. KL Rahul picked up where he left off on the opening day, adding 37 additional runs to India’s total during the first innings. Rahul’s remarkable hundred was characterised by his refusal to take any half-measures when he felt like going all out to find boundaries and sixes.

Rahul’s incredible innings of 101(137) came to an end as Nandre Burger nipped back. The visitors scored 245 runs in their opening innings. It was going to be difficult for the Proteas to bat because of the challenging circumstances due to the low-lying clouds and the erratic ball.

Early during the second innings, Aiden Markram was lost by South Africa. However, Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi withstood the early pace surge and were rewarded when the supplementary pacers entered the assault.

Even though the pitch was ideal for Shardul Thakur’s bowling, he had trouble with it. Prasidh Krishna, making his debut, mishandled his lengths and was crushed by the hitters. After lunch, South Africa found it easier to score as the surface became somewhat more level.

To take a few wickets, Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback spell was required. However, South Africa solidified their position further when David Bedingham, making his debut, and Elgar combined for 131 runs.

South Africa gain control as India try and fight back!

The magnificent, confident performance in which he appeared to be in total control in spite of the new ball bowlers posing several issues. After the rookie scored fifty, Mohammed Siraj dismissed him with a hard blow. Kyle Verreyne handed up his wicket to Prasidh and fell cheaply as well.

Elgar looked extremely comfortable at the opposite end as Marco Jansen took charge of the following three overs. South Africa will sleep well knowing that India have enough of chasing up to do.
