Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Titans by 5 runs in a low-scoring thriller on Tuesday at Narendra Modi Stadium. After this victory, Delhi became the second team after Mumbai Indians to defend a total against GT. This is Gujarat’s second loss in fourteen games while chasing targets.

Earlier, after winning the toss, DC skipper David Warner took a shocking decision to bat first against the defending champions. The decision didn’t go well with the visiting team as star India pacer Mohammed Shami dismissed opener Phil Salt for a golden duck in the very first over.

In the second over, skipper Warner also walked out as he fell short while taking a quick single. In the very next over, Shami once again seamed the ball and dismissed South African batter Riley Russouw for 8 runs off 6 balls.

After his departure in the fifth over of the powerplay, Shami clinched two wickets as he dismissed Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey. Garg scored 10 runs off 14 balls while Pandey amassed just 1 run after facing four deliveries. Shami ended his spell with four wickets by giving just 11 runs, which is his career-best performance.

However, in the end, Aman Hakim Khna scored a magnificent half-century to help DC to post a competitive total. Aman, in his innings, scored 51 runs off 44 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes. He was well supported by Axar Patel and Ripal Patel as they scored 27 and 23 runs respectively. Apart from Shami, Mohit Sharma clinched two wickets while Rashid Khan got a wicket too.

Rahul Tewatia’s hat trick of sixes failed to beat DC

Chasing 131, GT got to a terrible start as opener Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed for a six-ball duck in the very first over. In the fourth over, Anrich Nortje dismissed Shubman Gill for 6 runs off 7 balls. After that, David Miller and Vijay Shankar were also dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav and Ishant Sharma, respectively. Defending champions were crumbling at 32-4 when skipper Hardik Pandya along with Abhinav Manohar added 62 runs for the fifth wicket.

Manohar struggled his way to score 26 runs off 33 balls with the help of a six before getting dismissed by Ahmed. Meanwhile, Hardik scored unbeaten 59 runs off 53 balls with the help of seven boundaries. In the end, Rahul Tewatia hammered three back-to-back sixes off Nortje and got GT back in the game. However, in the last over DC pacer, Ishant Sharma defended 12 runs successfully, handing Delhi Capitals a 5-run win over GT.
