‘Koi Itta Careless kaise ho skta hai’ – Fans question India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s carelessness amid her bizarre dismissal against England
Despite Harmanpreet’s unusual runout, the Indian team showcased commendable performances
In a shocking turn of events during the historic one-off Test match between India and England at the Dy Patil Stadium, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur found herself in a deja vu moment on the first day of play. Harmanpreet was on the verge of achieving her maiden half-century in Test cricket when she encountered a bizarre runout, reminiscent of a similar incident in the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia.
Facing a delivery from Charlie Dean, Harmanpreet defended to the point and initiated a run, but quickly realised it wasn’t feasible. Soon, English fielder Danielle Wyatt executed a direct hit and caught Harmanpreet off guard. Despite initially appearing unconcerned by the appeal, replays showed her bat getting stuck on the crease, failing to get inside in time.
This unfortunate déjà vu moment led to Harmanpreet missing out on her maiden Test half-century by just one run. The Indian captain was dismissed for 49 runs off 81 balls. She also stitched a brilliant century partnership with Yastika Bhatia and helped India cruise to a comfortable position.
India stays way ahead in the game against formidable England
Earlier, in the game, India won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite Harmanpreet’s unusual runout, the Indian team showcased commendable performances from the debutants and other batters, setting the stage for an intriguing Test match against England. Following the early dismissals of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, debutants Jemimah Rodrigues and Shuba Satheesh contributed significantly with a 115-run partnership.
Satheesh made a noteworthy 69 runs off 76 balls, while Jemimah scored 68 runs off 99 balls. Yastika Bhatia also played a pivotal role, crafting a fine innings of 66 runs in 88 balls. At the end of Day 1, India posted a massive total of 410/7 runs in 94 overs. It’s worth noting that this is India’s first Test match in the last two years and the first on home soil in the last nine years.
Here is how fans react to Harmanpreet Kaur’s bizarre dismissal:
Bizarre way of getting out but reality is she has done this is past and has not learnt from her mistakes. We lost T20 WC SF against Australia because of exact same mistake. Very unfortunate. pic.twitter.com/rmwrHW4wiP
