Day 1 of the second test belonged to India after some well crafted innings from the Indian batters

West Indies’ poor decision-making was something to be noted as they sent India to bat after winning the toss on a flat track in the 2nd Test match. India advanced to 121 for no loss at lunch thanks to Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who maintained their exceptional form in the Caribbean. After scoring hundreds in India’s resounding victory in the first Test, youngster Jaiswal and Rohit appeared destined for yet another fabulous combination. In 26 overs, the visitors scored with a run rate of 4.65 and had not been troubled at all by the Windies’ bowlers.

With a six against Roach during the 19th over, India’s captain reached fifty runs. Again, the captain’s pull shot was successful all the way. At the opposite end, Jaiswal stepped up the tempo towards the conclusion of the morning session and with luck on his side, he was cutting to anything wide off stump. He drove to his half-century by playing a drive and continued his brilliant form and start in test cricket.

West Indies come roaring back in the second session!

The second session belonged to the West Indies after they cracked open the Indian batting line-up. Jason Holder took care of the skilled southpaw by inducing him to an extended drive when he could have easily grabbed Jaiswal at first slip minutes before lunchtime.  The plan was successful because Jaiswal incorrectly timed his drive and rookie Kirk McKenzie made a good catch.

The next player to leave was Gill, who failed twice in a row at his freshly acquired batting spot at number three. He was put through his paces by the seasoned Roach near the off stump, and Gill ultimately edged a nice length delivery straight to the wicketkeeper.

Rohit, who had a fantastic appearance in the centre, was dismissed by a Warrican beauty. The left-arm spinner threw one up and persuaded it to drift slightly away from the stump in order to clip the bails. Rahane got unlucky with a Shannon Gabriel angle-in ball, and his dismissal brought the tea break forward by two balls and he was dismissed for a mere score of 8.

In the last session, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja produced some magnificent strokes that helped India score 106 runs during 33.2 overs without sacrificing a single wicket. After devouring 20 dot balls, Kohli got things going with a trademark on-drive and will have his heart in his mouth as he enters day two just 14 runs short of reaching his first century on away soil since December 2018.
