‘Kohli bhai aajao wapis’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli goes back to Mumbai due to personal emergency

Virat Kohli will return to be with the side on Monday ahead of their warm-up clash on Tuesday afternoon

On Sunday (October 1), the Indian squad left for Thiruvananthapuram without batting sensation Virat Kohli. Due to a family issue, Kohli allegedly asked the team management for permission to go back home to Mumbai instead.

One of the Indian team management officials told Cricbuzz about this as it reported that “A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that he went to Mumbai for personal reasons. Virat will rejoin the team soon.”

According to the article, Kohli will reunite with the group on Monday in Thiruvananthapuram, wherein India is scheduled to play their last practice match against the Netherlands on Tuesday. Due to severe rain in Guwahati, India’s first warm-up match against England was called off before a ball was bowled.

After a four-hour trip from Guwahati, the Indian team boarded a chartered aircraft and made their way to Thiruvananthapuram. Tuesday’s warm-up encounter between India and the Netherlands is further questioned by the city’s rainy weather.

In Thiruvananthapuram, two warm-up games have already been postponed due to rain. If the weather permits, India will do an optional practice session on Monday. The Indian team’s spokesperson let everyone know about this schedule ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. He said, “Team India will have an optional training session from 2 PM onwards at the KCA – St Xavier’s College Cricket Ground, Thiruvananthapuram, weather permitting.”

For people like Jasprit, Ashwin, Shreyas, and KL, getting game time was important: Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, thinks that the players have been well-prepared for the ODI World Cup 2023. He claimed that this gave players the chance to consider their approaches. This was particularly true for players who were coming after a long layoff. Before the big event, some players needed some time on the field.

He said, “For people like Jasprit, Ashwin, Shreyas, and KL, getting game time was important, and getting that against a competitive side is a good thing. The practice games are generally 15 vs. 15, so it’s hard to get that level of intensity in those games.”
