Chennai had a pretty good outing at the Indian T20 League mega-auction 2022. They had 20.45 crores in the purse heading into the auction and, there is no denying that they did pretty good shopping.

Their most expensive bid came for Ben Stokes. The Yellow Army splurge a huge sum of 16.25 crores to acquire his services. There have been speculations that Chennai are looking at him as the future captain of the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League. Besides, MS Dhoni’s team also bought the services of Ajinkya Rahane, who could be a like-for-like replacement for Robin Uthappa.

They surprised one and all after bidding for Kyle Jamieson. There wasn’t a lot of interest from the other franchises because of his recent injuries but Fleming had ensured Chennai that he would be fully fit by the time the season starts.

Chennai have invested a lot in Indian uncapped players such as Nishant Sindhu, Shaik Rasheed, and Ajay Mandal to name a few. Meanwhile, a video clip has been going viral on the internet where Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina and RP Singh are analyzing the teams during the mini-auction.

In that clip, Uthappa talked about the under-19 cricketer stars present in the Chennai team and also called Chennai as ‘Hamari team’. Notably, Uthappa is no longer part of Chennai in the cash-rich league.

‘Under-19 team ke captain the aur Shaikh Rasheed Under-19 India ke vice-captain the. To, Under-19 team ke captain aur vice-captain hi hamari team me hai’.

The presenter was quick to point out that and asked ‘kiski team me hai’, leaving all of them in splits. The Chennai fans have loved the clip and are sharing it on Twitter. You can watch the video here.

Uthappa played for Chennai in the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Indian T20 League. He was traded from Rajasthan to Chennai ahead of the 2021 edition and was bought back into the side for the 2022 edition as well.

Robin Uthappa was arguably Chennai’s savior in the knockout phase during the 2021 season having scored 63 in Qualifier 1 against the Delhi Capitals.
