Kane Williamson optimistic about recovering from a long-standing elbow injury

Coming out with a positive update on his recent injury issues, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that things have started to look encouraging as his recovery is progressing well. The star Kiwi batter has been on the sidelines owing to a long-standing elbow injury that has kept him out of a majority of the cricket New Zealand have played since featuring in the finals of the 2021 World T20 against Australia.
Williamson last played in the first Test against India in Kanpur. Since then, the 31-year-old has been dealing with the elbow injury with head coach Gary Stead stating the recovery could take some time, however, ruling out surgery.

In the past, Williamson had expressed his frustration with the injury saying he sometimes wishes to cut his arm off. However, sounding much more optimistic, Williamson commented that he is now wanting to put the injury behind him as it’s been a long ordeal for him already. He also went on to reveal that his batting load has increased in the recent past hinting at brighter days ahead for the cricketer.

“It’s improving; it’s been a bit of a long slog. Hopefully, this time gives it gets what it needs; it will be nice to put it behind me. It does seem to be progressing quite well – in last small period, my batting load has started to increase quite a bit more; it’s looking positive,” Williamson said, as quoted by NZherald.com.

New Zealand is currently involved in a Test series against the visiting South African side leading the two-match series 1-0. Their regular captain, Williamson, was appreciative of his team’s outing in the first Test match which they won comprehensively by an innings and 276 runs. The batter also echoed that he expects the visitors to come back well going into the second Test.

“We couldn’t have hoped for much better in the first Test. Everybody bowled beautifully; there were a number of great contributions with the bat, and we caught everything – it was one of those days. I very much think South Africa will be better for the outing.” Williamson concluded.

New Zealand’s next international assignment will be a home series against the Netherlands starting March 25th. Concerning his comeback, Williamson would be hoping to be fit and rearing to go come the IPL 2022 mega event in March where he would be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.
