Indian star batter KL Rahul tied the knot with Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty on Monday (23rd January). The duo had been dating for a while and finally ended the speculations of getting married, doing rounds for weeks.

The two took to social media to make the announcement and share some images from their wedding. Wishes started pouring in for the newlyweds as they made the announcement on Twitter and Instagram. Sunil Shetty’s Khandala Farmhouse is said to have hosted the wedding ceremony.

“‘In your light, I learn how to love…’ Today, with our most loved ones, we got married in the home that’s given us immense joy and serenity. With a heart full of gratitude and love, we seek your blessings on this journey of togetherness,” they wrote in their posts.

Suniel Shetty, Athiya’s father, couldn’t hide his delight when he told reporters, “Bahut acha raha, aur abhi phere bhi ho gaye, shaadi officially ho chuki hai, aur officially father-in-law bhi ban chuka hoon (It went well and the pheras just ended. The wedding is officially done and I’m now officially a father-in-law.”

He joked that the “father-in-law chakkar” should be dropped, leaving only the “father” part. “In-law ka chakkar agar hat jaye aur agar father hi rahu toh bhaut khoobsurat hai, kyunki woh part main bhaut ache se nibhaata hoon (It would be great to dispense with ‘in-law’ and have ‘father’ remain because that’s a responsibility I discharge well),” he said.

In the meantime, fans were delighted to see the Indian Cricketer and the actress start their “second innings” together. They flooded Twitter with congratulatory messages for the couple. Many suggested that the lady luck will now be in Rahul’s favour when he takes the field.

KL Rahul had taken a break from India’s white-ball series against New Zealand. He is expected to return to the team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which begins on the 9th of February.
