Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made an emphatic statement by storming into the IPL 2023 final with a dominant win over defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. Despite being the table-toppers in the league stages, Gujarat succumbed to CSK’s superiority, setting the stage for an exciting final clash. Meanwhile, three teams are vying for the remaining spot in the final, as Gujarat Titans will face the winner of the Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in Qualifier 2 on Friday in Ahmedabad.

Mumbai Indians, despite a slow start and injury setbacks, have battled their way into the playoffs. Their captain, Rohit Sharma, and his team will be eager to seize the opportunity and secure a chance to face CSK in the final. CSK’s bowling coach, Dwayne Bravo, jokingly expressed his reservations about facing Mumbai Indians, emphasizing the quality and danger posed by all three competing teams. “No, I am scared of Mumbai (laughs). We don’t see it like that. All three other teams are dangerous teams. They are quality teams,” Bravo shared during an interview with Star Sports after CSK’s victory over Gujarat.

While celebrating CSK’s win, Bravo’s exuberance spilled over as he ran onto the field and continued dancing with joy even inside the team’s hotel elevator. If Mumbai Indians make it to the final, Bravo will come up against his good friend Kieron Pollard, who serves as Mumbai’s batting coach.

The light-hearted comment from Bravo underscores Mumbai Indians’ historical dominance over CSK in the IPL. With four final encounters between the two teams, Mumbai has emerged victorious thrice (in 2013, 2015, and 2019), while CSK claimed their first-ever meeting in the 2010 final. Mumbai Indians also hold a favourable head-to-head record, winning 20 out of their 36 meetings. However, CSK managed to defeat the five-time champions both in Mumbai and Chennai during IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians will now face Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match, held in Chennai on Wednesday. The focus will be on Rohit Sharma and his team as they aim to rebound from their earlier struggles in Chennai, particularly against a strong LSG side known for their quality spin options. The outcome of this encounter will determine the final opponent for CSK in the IPL 2023 championship clash.
