The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is set to start on March 31 when MS Dhoni led-Chennai will face defending champions Gujarat at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Although, Chennai have started their camp in MA Chidambaram stadium with skipper Dhoni. However, according to recent development, the English allrounder Ben Stokes is set to join the team soon.

The England Test skipper Stokes made a Tweet to inform fans about his participation in the tournament. In a recent tweet, Stokes shared his pictures with bags and said “see you soon Chennai.” This tweet also cleared the air over his participation as it was speculated that the English superstar will not participate in the tournament to prepare for the Ashes.

Notably, Stokes is being looked after as a successor of Chennai skipper MS Dhoni who is reportedly playing his last season in the tournament. The former India skipper announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 and is looking beyond cricket. Apart from this Stokes will be a great addition to Chennai’s squad as they need some firepower in the batting order.

Ben Stokes who was part of England’s world cup winning squad in 2019 was bought by Chennai during a mini-auction last year. Chennai roped in for a whooping sum of INR 16.25 crore making him one of the most expensive buys of the league.

Indian T20 League’s 16th season will start with an impressive clash between Hardik Pandya led-Gujarat and MS Dhoni-led Chennai. The match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in presence of almost 100k people. According to some reports, all tickets for the opening game were sold out 10 days before the game and it will be the largest gathering of fans to watch a cricket game.
