‘Jaisa bole waise karo, bhagwaan hai ye’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli requests time off ahead of India-South Africa series
India is set to start their tour of South Africa on 10th December 2023 with a 3-match T20I series.
Virat Kohli has informed the Indian team management to allow him some rest ahead of India’s tour of South Africa. The Indian team is set to travel to South Africa next week for a full-fledged away tour for the first time in five months. The two teams would be competing in three T20Is, three ODIs and two tests within a span of one month.
For the past year, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been seen playing T20Is. This has been a topic of debate amongst fans and experts for some time now. There are reports that they are not in the scheme of things for the upcoming T20 World Cup. That tournament is set to be held in June in the United States of America and the West Indies.
Since Virat Kohli has asked for rest in the white-ball leg of the tour, it looks increasingly difficult for the Indian team to accommodate him later on in the T20I set-up. However, according to the Indian Express report, Virat Kohli wants to be completely ready for the 2-match Test series. The test series is one of the most important assignments of this tour. This is because each test helps the Indian team in the World Test Championship points table.
“He is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa” : Sources
The Indian team management and the Indian Cricket Board were informed about this decision by Virat Kohli earlier this week. The source told Indian express about Virat Kohli’s request ahead of the away tour. The management has not taken a call till now but would be reluctant to accept their fate with this.
He said, “He (Kohli) has informed the BCCI and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white ball cricket next. At the moment he has informed the BCCI that he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa.”

The demands of international cricket are immense, and such breaks are crucial for players to recharge mentally and physically. Looking forward to his return for the Test series, rejuvenated and ready to lead! ?? #ViratKohli pic.twitter.com/jRdr5wrOzY

Reported by Indian Express.
This means Virat said this to Rohit and management, but Rohit told this to his friend Devendra Pandey.

Virat has to play the T20 WC at any cost…and before that there's only Afghanistan T20I series and IPL. Anyways still would be enough game time for someone like Virat.
