Australia’s convincing 10-wicket victory against the West Indies in Adelaide to give them a 1-0 series lead. Australia has already defeated Pakistan 3-0 earlier this summer which makes this win their fourth victory overall. After he delivered another clutch century to save Australia from a precarious situation, Travis Head was chosen player of the match.

Josh Hazlewood produced another outstanding bowling performance in Adelaide, taking five wickets during the second innings as well as nine overall. Australia was forced to bat again against the Windies, however Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja saw off a relatively short second innings, knocking down the required 26 runs.

Shamar Joseph, playing his maiden Test for the West Indies, made an impact for the visitors right from the start. He was able to remove Steve Smith with his opening ball of a Test match and demonstrated his skill with the bat.

His vicious bouncer struck Khawaja on the jaw, causing him severe discomfort. This also forced him to retire hurt and ending the Test on a bad note. This still remains the only negative thing for Australia from this Test match. Marnus Labuschagne came on instead of Khawaja to score the winning runs for his side.

The second Test is a day-night Test held at Gabba starting next Thursday. Australia’s victory in the opening Test has assured them that they would be keeping the Frank Worrell Trophy.

“He has a great vision and skill” : Kraigg Braithwaite

The visiting skipper Kraigg Braithwaite spoke to the reporters during the post-match presentation. He spoke about what his team lacked but was all praise of the young all-rounder of their side.

The West Indies skipper said (as quoted by CricBuzz), “We thought the bowlers did really well. Batting wise, we didn’t bat well, we didn’t get going in both innings. As batsmen, it was about getting a feel of Test cricket, a feel of how it is to play against the number 1 side. Its important for them to learn and learn fast. He’s (Shamar Joseph) a guy full of energy, he has a great vision and skill. He’s done a good job.”
