India’s 20-20 World Cup 2007 win will always be a memorable one for the fans. The Men In Blue weren’t the favorites going into the tournament. After all, some senior players decided to rest and the team didn’t play like they might have in the ODI World Cup a few months back. MS Dhoni, who was asked to lead the team in the absence of senior players, led the team to a title win.

15 and a half years after the victory, the Asian side continues their hunt for their second 20-20 World Cup title. Meanwhile, after India’s loss against Australia in the World Test Championship final on June 11, an MSD fan remembered the 2007 victory and Dhoni’s captaincy in the tournament.

“No coach , no mentor , young boy’s , most of the senior player’s denied to take part . never captianed any single match before . This guy defeated prime australia in semifinals and won a T20 World Cup in 48 day’s after becoming captain,” the fan wrote.

Not just MS Dhoni but the other 10 players contributed too: Harbhajan Singh

The fan’s tweet got the attention of Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the 2007 victory. He didn’t agree what the fan had to say and said that no just Dhoni but the 10 players also contributed to India’s victory.

“Yes when these matches were played this young boy was playing alone from india.. not the other 10 .. so alone he won the World Cup trophies .. irony when Australia or any other nation win the World Cup headlines says Australia or etc country won. But when indian wins it’s said captain won it’s a team sports . Win together lose together,” Singh wrote in reply.

Notably, Singh is always accused by fans of being jealous of Dhoni. However, the former has maintained respected for his former captain. Not to mention, both players played for Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2020.
