Currently playing in the first semi-final in the 2023 Duleep Trophy, Central Zone captain Shivam Mavi grabbed a superb six-wicket haul as West Zone were dismissed for 220 after batting first. The aggressive right-arm bowler finished with 6/44 in 19.5 overs after bowling with hostility. He also bowled seven maidens which shows his consistency. These are currently his best First-Class cricket statistics and an innings he would not forget for a while to come.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Suryakumar Yadav, as well as Sarfaraz Khan, were three vital wickets that Mavi took, allowing him to quickly destroy West Zone’s middle order. The West Zone’s highest scorer, Atit Sheth, who made an excellent 74, became Mavi’s fourth and final victim on Day 1.

On the second day, he promptly got rid of Arzan Nagwaswalla, as well as Yuvrajsinh Dodiya, to finish up his six-wicket haul. Other Central Zone bowlers were unable to take more than a single wicket. This marked his third fifer overall in the format, and he also has three four-wicket hauls to his credit. The speedster, who is now playing his 14th FC match, has amassed 59 wickets at an excellent strike rate of over 18.

As star batter Prithvi Shaw notched up only 26, Priyank Panchal made a poor 13. Indian team superstar Cheteshwar Pujara scored only 28 and blew away his starts. West Zone were giving away wickets at regular intervals. Both Mumbai batters Suryakumar Yadav, as well as Sarfaraz Khan, fell short as well. They weren’t even able to manage a double-digit score to support the team.

Sheth, on the other hand, scored a key fifty to lead the team to a decent total. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, the all-around player, added 39 more runs as West Zone passed the 200-run milestone. The West Zone bowlers have got their team somewhat back on the game as they were able to chip away with five wickets of the Central Zone batting line-up and would want to wrap the opposition quickly to take away some lead to savour for the second innings.
