5) Yuzvendra Chahal – 21 (Rajasthan Royals)
Many would have predicted that the premium leg-spinner for Team India would be at the top of the leaderboard when the competition ends. However, he could have been the top wicket-taker if his team would have made the play-offs last season. Chahal was able to scalp 21 wickets at a superb economy of just over 8. The most magnificent stat of Chahal’s IPL season was he was able to finish with four four-fers which was the most last season.
4) Piyush Chawla – 22(Mumbai Indians)
Piyush Chawla was simply magnificent with his line and lengths last season as he bowled with a fresh energy. The 34-year-old had been outstanding for the team this past season, taking 22 wickets. MI secured Chawla at base price, and was truly a worthy investment for his side. Nobody could have predicted Chawla’s influence, but his incredible abilities have since prompted a lot of people to take notice.
3) Rashid Khan – 27 (Gujarat Titans)
Even though Rashid Khan was able to pick up 27 wickets at a very good economy of 8.23, the expectations were a little bit higher from the Afghanistan captain. An interesting thing from his season was how he groomed Noor Ahmed, his fellow Afghanistan spinner throughout the season. Along with him, the spin duo turned out to be lethal for the batters and were chipping away with wickets for fun.
2) Mohit Sharma – 27 (Gujarat Titans)
At the start of the season, nobody would have anticipated that Mohit Sharma would finish off as the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament. The Gujarat Titans had faith in the veteran bowler and the pacer delivered to their investment. Sharma was used in the latter part of the innings and was quite effective with his variations. His variations were his key skill and proved to be a key part of the Titans team last season. He was able to notch up 27 wickets in just 14 games with an economy of 8.17
1) Mohammed Shami – 28 (Gujarat Titans)
The IPL 2023 Purple Cap went to Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami, who took the most wickets throughout the season. With an economy of 8.03, Shami ended up with an enthralling season. The pacer made a comeback with an all-time high of 4 for 11 and 28 wickets across 17 games. His knack of picking up wickets at crucial junctures of the game was proving effective for the Gujarat Titans during their run to the final.
