He secured a jaw-dropping deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore. Australia skipper Pat Cummins followed closely, fetching Rs 20.5 crore and becoming the second-highest bid.
Chennai Super Kings made headlines by splurging Rs 14 crore on New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, while India’s Harshal Patel commanded Rs 11.75 crore, making him the third most expensive pick. The auction witnessed notable deals, including Rachin Ravindra, the breakout star of the recent Cricket World Cup, who joined CSK for Rs 1.8 crore.
On the flip side, renowned players like Steven Smith and Rilee Rossouw went unsold, along with India’s Karun Nair and Manish Pandey. The auction featured 332 players, but only 72 players secured deals, highlighting the competitive nature of the bidding process. As franchises finalised their squads for the upcoming season, the hefty price tags and strategic acquisitions set the stage for an intense and captivating IPL in 2024.
