Legendary India skipper MS Dhoni has been one of the most celebrated cricketers in the history of the game. His on- and off-field presence has been phenomenal for dragging audiences. However, the 42-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is currently facing fitness issues as he underwent knee surgery earlier this year.

After retiring from international cricket, Dhoni only plays in the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings. Ahead of the upcoming season, his participation remains in jeopardy. However, Legends League Cricket (LLC) CEO Raman Raheja made a huge demand. Raheja said that Dhoni should play till the age of 50 and should join LLC after retiring from the IPL. His comments sparked controversy on social media, as fans alleged he used Dhoni’s name for marketing.

Raheja had said, “My future plan is to position this as a second inning for players. MS Dhoni should play till 50, and I would love to have MS Dhoni come and play sometime. Or may, all we know, five years later we have a Kohli vs. Rohit take place.” Fans found his comments unnecessary and pathetic, as he is facing a lot of criticism on social media.

Is MS Dhoni fully fit to play competitive cricket?

It’s worth noting that Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League in 2024 will depend on his fitness. However, the former India skipper is currently not looking fully fit. Recently, in a video of his visit to Almora, Dhoni can be seen steeping down the stairs without using a leg. His situation explains the status of his knee, and fans wouldn’t want him to keep himself in trouble.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, all 10 IPL teams will announce their final retention list before the small-player auction. The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings might go with a huge purse in the auction, as Ben Stokes has opted out of the upcoming edition. Additionally, Ambati Raydu has also announced his retirement from the IPL. This will give them nearly 30 crore INR for the upcoming small auctions.
