According to reports, Zaka Ashraf has left his position as head of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Management Committee. The action was taken following Australia’s 0–3 thumping of the Shan Masood-led team during the Test series. Under recently chosen captain Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan is also about to lose the current Twenty20 International series versus New Zealand by a complete landslide.

On July 6, 2023, the Board of Governors selected Ashraf to the position of Chairman of PCB, succeeding Najam Sethi. In November of last year, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the acting prime minister, extended his term even longer.

Ashraf was cited by Geo TV as he spoke about his resignation. He said, “I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way. Now it is up to Prime Minister [Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar], whomever he nominates [will take my place].”

The Men in Green participated during the ODI World Cup 2023 and the Asia Cup when Ashraf was in-charge. The Men in Green did not qualify for both the ODI World Cup knockouts and the Asia Cup final. Babar Azam resigned from his position as Pakistan’s all-around captain after the two competitions.

After being transferred to the National Cricket Academy, Mickey Arthur also tendered his resignation, along with Grant Bradburn as well as Andrew Puttick. Arthur was recently replaced as team director by former captain Mohammad Hafeez. Meanwhile Wahab Riaz, the former pacer, was named chairman of the selection committee.

Shaheen Shah Afridi comments on yet another loss for Pakistan

In the meantime, Shaheen Afridi voiced his dissatisfaction as Pakistan’s five-match T20I series loss streak continued in New Zealand. The speedster made note of the fact that despite his and Mohammad Rizwan’s strong beginnings in both areas, the team was unable to come together.

The Pakistan skipper said, “I think the way Rizwan gave us the start, it was very good. Unfortunately, we couldn’t grab the opportunity in middle overs. I try to take wickets in the first over. I feel 170 was a good total on this pitch, and if we had grabbed our chances, we could have won this game.”
