Washington Sundar once again found himself injured as the star all-rounder suffered a shoulder niggle during a Royal London One-Day Cup match in Manchester on Wednesday. Sundar left the field after receiving treatment on his shoulder, Lancashire said in a social media post.

The bowling all-rounder landed heavily on his left shoulder while fielding for Lancashire against Worcestershire. The extent of Sundar’s injury is not known but the India all-rounder has had many issues with his fitness off late. The injury comes as a huge setback for the Indian team as Sundar has been picked for India’s tour of Zimbabwe where the senior national team will play 3 ODIs, starting August 18.

Washington Sundar hasn’t featured in an ODI since the ODI series against West Indies

Sundar hasn’t featured in an ODI since the ODI series against West Indies in February this year. The all-rounder was made to sit out after he picked up a hand injury during his maiden stint with the Hyderabad Franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022 wherein he played only 9 matches. The 22-year-old recovered from his injury after going through a rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy and played county cricket for Lancashire. He picked up 8 wickets in 2 first-class matches in county Division 1 following which he played 3 List A matches in the Royal London one-day Cup.

Sundar, notably, was in India’s plans for last year’s T20 World Cup but a finger injury during the second half of the Indian T20 League in the UAE forced him out of the premier showpiece T20 tournament. Sundar returned to play Vijay Hazare Trophy for Tamil Nadu but missed India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year due to Covid-19. The spin allrounder cemented his place in the Indian Test team after his brilliant performance at the Gabba Test in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. He carried his dream form in the home Test series against England in February where he missed out on his first Test Hundred as well by a whisker. Before the youngster could cement his place in the limited-overs side, he’s found himself injured time and again.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news of him being injured again:
