Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s star all-rounder, was instrumental in India’s recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory over Australia. He was named co-Player of the Series for his outstanding performances with the ball. He finished the four-match series with 25 wickets to his name.

Now, after the conclusion of the series, Ashwin has taken a dig at “some” Indian players for not accepting that someone else can be better than them. “In India, some think they are the best and then suddenly someone from the next generation comes and does better than them. Accept that there’ll always be someone better, only then can we stop using this statement, ‘In those days when we played…’,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

In the meantime, fans believe that the off-spinner took an indirect dig at former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Earlier, Harbhajan Singh responded cryptically to Australia’s use of Ravichandran Ashwin’s doppelganger in preparation for the four-Test series against India.

To prepare for the Test series, Australia worked with an ‘Ashwin doppelganger,’ Maheesh Pithiya. Pithiya’s bowling action is strikingly similar to that of India’s leading off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has a strong record against Australia at home.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer responded savagely to the news that Australia is preparing specifically for Ashwin, claiming that Ashwin was already inside the Aussie heads. “First Test is five days away and @ashwinravi99 is already inside Aus head,” Jaffer wrote on his official Twitter account.

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading spinners and is currently the country’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game, responded to Jaffer’s tweet with a cryptic response. He captioned a photo of the pitch with multiple cracks, “This the main thing they have in their head.”

Many fans on Twitter, however, believed Harbhajan was undermining Ashwin with the tweet and refused to acknowledge that the Aussies were preparing specifically for the 36-year-old off-spinner.
