India's tour of Ireland

The schedule for the Indian team is jampacked after the recently concluded Indian T20 League 2022. The Men in Blue are currently hosting South Africa in a five-match T20I series where they trail the hosts by 2-1. In a recent announcement, the team for their upcoming tour to Ireland has been revealed. The biggest change from the ongoing India- South Africa T20I series is the change in captaincy from Rishabh Pant to Hardik Pandya. In the meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been appointed the vice-captain for this series.

The two-match T20I series will be held on June 26th and June 28th respectively in Dublin. With Pant going for the England Test, the responsibility of leading the side has been put on Hardik Pandya. The Gujarat captain was instrumental in their success in their debut season. The newly-formed franchise went all the way and won their maiden title thwarting competition from the likes of Rajasthan, Bangalore and Lucknow.

Another eye-catching addition to the team has been made in the form of Rahul Tripathi. The Hyderabad batter made an impressive 413 runs at an average of 37.5 and a strike rate of 158.23 in the recently concluded Indian T20 League.

Speaking on his inclusion, the Ranchi-born batter said, “It is a very big opportunity, a dream come true [moment] and [I] appreciate [it].” He added, “I am very happy that the selectors and everybody believed in me and whatever hard work I have put in, I have got the rewards. And hopefully, if I get an opportunity to play, I will try and give my best.”

A few other notable inclusions are Suryakumar Yadav and the Rajasthan captain, Sanju Samson. The former was ruled out of the closing stages of the Indian T20 League this year which forced him to sit out for the ongoing India- South Africa T20I series as well. The Rajasthan captain on the other hand was not selected as there were no places for another wicketkeeper batter in the team.
