Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have recently resumed their protests against BJP MP on grounds of alleged sexual harassment. Early this year, the duo alongside other athletes such as Bajrang Punia and others joined the protest that was held at the Jantar Manter, Delhi. However, after the assurance of the Indian government to look into the matter, the protests were ended.
However, three months after the assurance, the wrestlers resumed their indefinite strike. BJP MP, Brij Bhushan has been alleged for the unspeakable crime. He has been pleading not guilty in front of the media as of now. Meanwhile, 2021 Olympic Gold Medalist, Neeraj Chopra recently stood in support of the players.
“They have worked hard to represent our great nation and make us proud. As a nation, we are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and dignity of every individual, athlete or not,” the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist stated on Twitter.
On the other hand, renowned Indian athlete, PT Usha called out the protesters, citing ‘indiscipline and tarnishing India’s image’.
“Wrestlers staging protest on streets amounts to indiscipline. It is tarnishing the image of India,” PT Usha said to reporters post IOA’s Executive Committee meeting.

Meanwhile, ahead of the hearing of the Supreme Court of India’s hearing, Phogat has questioned the silence of Indian cricketers on the matter. She said that the entire country worships them. The renowned player added that even though they don’t need to speak in our favor, the can at least give out a neutral message.
“The entire country worships cricket but not even a single cricketer has spoken up. We aren’t saying that you speak in our favour, but at least put up a neutral message and say there should be justice for whichever party. This is what pains me… Be it cricketers, badminton players, athletics, boxing…” Vinesh told Indian Express.
