In what comes as shocking news, one of the Indian T20 League commentators, Aakash Chopra has been tested for COVID-19. He has been part of the Hindi commentary panel since last month. Chopra worked with his commentary teammates during the ongoing tournament. However, a few hours back, the former India player took to Twitter to announce this shocking news.

He wrote “Caught and Bowled Covid. Yups…the C Virus has struck again. Really mild symptoms…all under control. Will be away from the commentary duties for a few days…hoping to come back stronger”. Even though he claims them to be mild symptoms, he would have to isolate himself for seven days. On the fifth and sixth days, the Delhi player will have to give two negative tests. Only then, he can join back the commentary team.

This is the first case of COVID-19 in the Indian T20 League 2023

The last three seasons of the biggest T20 League were played under the cloud of the deadly disease. In the 2020 season, no player or anyone associated with the tournament was safe from the disease during the tournament. However, before the tournament, some of the players from the Chennai camp were infected but there was no harm and no foul.

The 2021 season was suspended midway in April of that year as eight to nine players were infected by the virus. The rest of the season was played in the UAE in September-October of that year. Last year, some of the Delhi players were infected by the virus but their games weren’t impacted by this at all. Their matches against Punjab and Chennai were played as per schedule.

Meanwhile, the 16th season has seen it’s first case of the disease, i.e Aakash Chopra. The fans would hope that nothing like this comes up again although the tournament would go on if that’s the case.
