Indian T20 League: 5 Teams with highest numbers of fours
T20 cricket in general comes with the promises of boundaries for most of its the duration. The Indian T20 League has been no exception to this general rule of the newest format.
Indian spectators fill the stadiums and sit in front of their television sets to watch the batsmen sending it big and deep into the stands. This craze for sixes sometimes leaves some classic and innovative shots for fours under-appreciated.
5. Bangalore (2720 fours)
Bangalore has always been associated with two extremes of batting. The team has the highest as well as the lowest team totals recorded to their name.
Chinnaswamy stadium the home ground for Bangalore have been a batsman’s paradise providing some of the biggest totals in the history of Indian T20 league. Though the proportion for six hitting is higher for Bangalore than other teams, they are not far behind in the four-hitting aspect. Bangalore is the fifth team in the list with 2720 fours.
With the Indian T20 League’s 15th edition round the corner the fans would be expecting to witness more balls crossing the fence be it along the ground or through the air.
4. Punjab (2775 fours)
Punjab has the tag of chokers stuck to them for failing to perform well in the defining moments of their campaigns. Although the team has always been able to secure the services of some very classy batsmen for their team.
Though title less, the Punjab team finds a spot in the list of top four-hitters in the IndianT20 League. Punjab have 2775 fours to their credit in the Indian T20 League history.
3. Kolkata (2840 fours)
Kolkata have seen it all in the Indian T20 League. They are the only team to have finished in all the positions in the league from 1 to 8 over the seasons. The two-time champions though lagged behind in the first three seasons picked themselves up and have since been one of the toughest competitors.
The Eden Gardens, home ground for Kolkata, has provided the most competitive wickets in the league. Kolkata with a good mixture of boundary hitters and grafters in their team over the years are placed third in the four-hitting list. They have struck 2840 fours over the course of different seasons in the Indian T20 League.
2. Delhi (2860 Fours)
The Delhi franchise was one of the most underperforming teams in the league., but that has changed in the recent few years. However, the team has mostly found a good balance in the team, but the failure to outperform the opposition in the crunch situations has left the franchise without a single title.
The Feroz Shah Kotla ground has mostly been the home ground for Delhi. The home pitch being slightly on the slower side the Delhi batters have to depend more on rotating strikes and hitting boundaries along the ground than taking the aerial option. This has made Delhi the second-highest four-hitting team with 2860 fours.
- Mumbai (2890 Fours)
Mumbai team is well known to all the Indian T20 League fans as the team with most number of titles (5). The team has always put forward very good all-round shows. The depth the team always finds in between bat and ball is quite amazing. The Mumbai batters also find a balance between sixes and fours.
A batsman favoring home ground in Wankhede (mostly) has seen Mumbai hitting enough fours to be at the top of this all-time list. Mumbai with 2890 fours has hit the highest number of fours in IPL history.
