Indian T20 League 2023: Three teams that could go after Jason Holder at mini-auction
The allrounder was released by the Lucknow franchise ahead of the mini-auction set to take place on December 23, in Kochi.
The Indian T20 League 2023 is fast approaching and the mini-auction for the same will be held on December 23, in Kochi. The teams are setting their targets right ahead of the much-anticipated auction given that there will be a few big names in the auction list and it remains to be seen where the likes of Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Cameron Green will land at.
However, Jason Holder, who was a part of the Lucknow franchise last year, will be hoping to make a comeback and it is highly likely that he might end up in a different franchise, given that Lucknow are unlikely to buy him back. We decided to handpick three teams that might pick the West Indies allrounder from the mini-auction.
Here are the three teams that might target Jason Holder in the Indian T20 League mini-auction:
1) Hyderabad Franchise
Holder was a part of the Hyderabad franchise earlier in the league and the speedster might as well make a comeback to the squad from the mini-auction. To add more, Jason was a part of the Hyderabad franchise in 2015, 2020 and 2021. With the franchise deciding to release him ahead of the mini-auction in 2022, Jason found himself in the Lucknow camp.
However, given that the Hyderabad franchise are in need of allrounder and with 4 overseas slots remaining, it is highly likely that we might witness the return of Jason in the Hyderabad camp. With not much experience in the pace attack barring Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the inclusion of Jason might help in finding the right balance.
2) Chennai Franchise
Jason Holder started his Indian T20 League career with the Chennai franchise in 2013 and the player was extremely impressive, given that the team fetched him with much-needed opportunities. With 2 overseas remaining, the Chennai franchise would leave no stone unturned in the mini-auction, if they fail to get the right players in.
Although one could argue that it is unlikely that the Chennai franchise might go all out for the Caribbean star, if at all the think tank led by MS Dhoni fail to rope in their desired players, given that the player has already been a part of the franchise in the past, Jason might get to don the yellow jersey next year.
3) Punjab Franchise
The Punjab franchise will have a lot to fill in from the mini-auction and with over INR 30 crore in the purse, it is highly likely that the franchise might give tough competition to the other teams in the mini-auction, eventually roping in their desired players.
The Punjab franchise are one of those who are in need of an allrounder and the West Indies star might get a chance in the camp, given that his experience could come in handy for the team to be led by Shikhar Dhawan, which is banking on youngsters.
