England Test team captain Ben Stokes has established himself as a genuine all-rounder on the world stage. He has done so in the Indian T20 League as well. However, the star player missed the last edition of the cash-rich league owing to his mental health issues. As a result, his team Rajasthan had to let go of him and he will now be in the player’s auction for the 2023 season. In this article, we will have a
Look at the teams that might target Ben Stokes in the auction:
1. Mumbai
Mumbai is still looking for a match-winning all-rounder after letting go of their star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the previous edition. Ben Stokes could very well fill in those shoes and be the player Mumbai has been looking for.
Furthermore, Mumbai prefers to use two foreign seamers in addition to Jasprit Bumrah, and he could be a good fit for that role. However, with the remaining purse of 20.55 crores, Mumbai will have to strategise their bids for Stokes.
2. Hyderabad
The Hyderabad team management has been under the scanner for a while now for not being able to retain a few of their star overseas players. They’ve also let go of David Warner, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow, and Kane Williamson since last season.
The orange army is currently in desperate need of a star overseas player who can also serve as captain. Ben Stokes could be on their radar, as they still have over 42 crores in their purse. It will be interesting to see if they go after the English man.
3. Rajasthan
The Rajasthan team had to let go of their star all-rounder ahead of the last season with a heavy heart. They may go after Ben Stokes again in the auction to get him back to where he left off. Stokes can fit in well with the team with their new aggressive approach in the tournament.
However, their low purse value of 13.2 crores may cause them problems in the auction. Last time Rajasthan ended up as the runner ups and if they do end up bagging Ben Stokes, they might go all the way across the line.
